About Us
Located in Adolfström in the municipality of Arjeplog, Lapland, we operate the companies Fjällflygarna AB and Johanssons Fjällstugor.
Fjällflygarna AB operates three helicopters and carries out many different types of helicopter operations.
Adolfström is a beautiful mountain village located in the valley of the Laisälven River, where the road ends and the mountains begin. Here, at the very end of the valley, settlers established themselves in 1841. Six generations later, descendants of the first settler have established themselves as entrepreneurs in aviation and outdoor experiences in the historic mountain village of Adolfström. Here you will find excellent fishing waters, an interesting part of Sweden’s history, and opportunities for nature experiences and activities all year round.
Our long experience and strong local roots allow us to offer personal service with a focus on safety and quality. We are proud to be part of the mountain region of Arjeplog and continue to develop our services with our customers’ needs at the center.

Environment
Fjällflygarna has been an environmentally certified company since 2004 and continuously works to reduce our environmental impact.

Historical Background
The first aviation company in Adolfström was called Svaipaflyg, founded in 1973 by Kjell Johansson together with the film company Forsgren Produktion. The business was based entirely on flying fishing tourists by floatplane to mountain lakes.
After one particularly windy summer that made seaplane operations difficult, Kjell decided to obtain a helicopter pilot license. He trained with Lapplandsflyg in Umeå, and in 1977 he carried out the first helicopter flights using a rented piston-engine Bell 47 G2.
In 1982, Fjällflygarna i Arjeplog AB was founded. The company operated with one helicopter and one seaplane. The helicopter model they eventually chose was the Hughes 500, a powerful and versatile helicopter well suited for the company’s operations.
Seaplane operations ended in 1998, and a second helicopter was purchased instead. Later that autumn, an accident ended Kjell’s career as a pilot. During his hospital stay, he even purchased a new helicopter from his hospital bed — something the hospital staff said they had never experienced before. Kjell’s son Fredrik Johansson began his aviation career as a helicopter technician, later training as a pilot and joining the company in 2000. Today, he is the Chief Pilot of Fjällflygarna.
